GRACIOUS
By John Grey
thru the cellar window
squirrel & pigeon
under the allspice
with its leaves
drunk on dew
despite the scale
strong sense of
sun, earth, horizon
accentuated by
dark underside
of constant shoes
the world
thus framed
enough to support
ordinary everyday life
a good day
to put away the paintbrush
the canvas
for sweeping dust
& sorting out these boxes
a feeling of accomplishment
increasingly rare
mingling with thoughts
of Angela
& Ricardo
the strange reality
of business at hand
& other lives
going on somewhere
