Catalogue of Wishes
by Kemboi Allan
I want to believe in good signs
dark clouds for rains
on a dry and punitive season
but I hate the premonitions
within my feeble assemblage
and I have to guard
my uneven thoughts.
I wish I could hear the birds
singing outside my window
A bright morning to behold in awe
the day is warm and clear
and I have a catalogue of wishes
problems of human existence
waiting for the beautiful evening.
I wish my knees will not buckle
as I step out to muck up
the daylight hours
ploughing through the tall reeds
problems of my own creation
to kill the fears within me.
